Engraving

Learn how to make your own Japanese v-shaped graver from scratch and modify your hammer's handle to make it custom fit to your hand. You are advised to learn how to engrave a couple of set projects with us to get to know the graver properly. These projects include geometric and organic lines.

Strongly recommended to keep practicing engraving after the course. You will borrow some of the tools and take home the pitch, graver and hammer with you.

This class is the perfect introduction to engraving on tougher metals and larger projects.

Suitable for experienced makers. For beginners, please seek advice before booking.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Main Instructor

Wataru YAMAZAKI

Jewelry artist

Graduated from Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry, Tokyo and has exhibited his work at Gallery Deux Poissons, Art Fair Tokyo and many more in Japan.

Wataru manipulates precious and non-precious metals into the delicate plant and flower jewelry. He communicates with metals and adds his aesthetics to them using Japanese traditional metalwork techniques such as engraving and chasing.

Mariko SUMIOKA

Jewelry artist / English-Japanese interpreter

Graduated from (BA) Edinburgh College of Art, UK and has exhibited at galleries and art fairs internationally.

Mariko creates sculptural jewellery inspired by architectural elements and structure. She developed her unique abstract aesthetic by combining precious metals with bamboo, enamel, patina and antique kimono.

The class balance can be paid on the first day of the class.
